About IEM Kolkata
The Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) in Salt Lake Sector V, Kolkata, is one of the oldest private engineering institutes in West Bengal. Founded in 1989, it is the flagship of the IEM-UEM Group and now runs as a school of the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata. IEM holds NAAC grade "A", and its eligible departments, including CSE, IT, ECE, Electrical and the MBA, are NBA accredited. Students usually call it IEM Kolkata or IEM Salt Lake.
IEM offers B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering and its specialisations (AI & ML, AI, Data Science, IoT and Cyber Security), Information Technology, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Mechanical and Biotechnology, along with 4-year BBA and BCA, MBA, MCA and M.Tech programs.
IEM Kolkata fees: the B.Tech costs ₹1,40,000 in the first semester and ₹1,15,000 in each of the next seven semesters, ₹9.45 lakh for the full 4-year course, and the fee is the same for every branch. BBA and BCA cost ₹4.9 lakh in total, the MBA ₹7 lakh, MCA ₹3 lakh and M.Tech about ₹3.02 lakh. Hostel and uniform are extra, and a booking amount (₹50,000 if you are still in Class 12, ₹1,40,000 if you have passed) holds a B.Tech seat.
B.Tech admission is through WBJEE counselling, JEE Main ranks or IEM's own IEMJEE counselling. For IEMJEE, CSE needs at least 80% in Class 10 and 12, CSE (AI & ML) 75%, CSE (AI) and IT 70%, and the other branches 60%, with 45-50% in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The MBA needs 55% in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation plus a CAT or MAT score.
Scholarships are generous for top rankers: IEM waives the full tuition fee for all 4 years for students with a WBJEE rank of 1 to 1,000 or a JEE Main rank of 1 to 10,000, and for Class 12 school toppers and state rank holders (1 to 10).
Placements: NIRF 2025 data shows a median salary of about ₹6 LPA for IEM's B.Tech graduates of 2023-24, and the institute reported that 95% of students were placed in 2023 with an average CTC of ₹7.81 LPA.
