Before you book a B.Tech seat at IEM Kolkata, it helps to know exactly what you are signing up for financially. Four years of engineering is a big investment, and the headline number rarely includes hostel or other charges. This guide gives you the full IEM Kolkata BTech fees structure 2027 – semester by semester – along with IEM Kolkata BTech CSE fees per year, IEM Kolkata hostel fees per year, the seat booking amount and the scholarships available to IEM B.Tech students.
IEM B.Tech Fees 2027 in Brief
- First semester: ₹1,40,000
- Second to eighth semester: ₹1,15,000 each
- Total tuition for four years: about ₹9.45 lakh
- Average per year: about ₹2.36 lakh
The fee is the same for every branch – CSE, CSE (AI & ML), CSE (AI), CSE (IoT/Cyber Security), IT, ECE, Electrical, Mechanical and Biotechnology.
What You Pay Each Year
- Year 1: ₹2,55,000 (₹1,40,000 + ₹1,15,000)
- Year 2: ₹2,30,000
- Year 3: ₹2,30,000
- Year 4: ₹2,30,000
- Total: ₹9,45,000
The first year is the most expensive because the first semester carries a higher fee. After that, the cost stays steady at ₹2.3 lakh a year.
IEM Kolkata BTech CSE Fees Per Year
Many students assume CSE costs more. At IEM, it does not. The B.Tech CSE fee is about ₹2.55 lakh in the first year and ₹2.3 lakh in each year after that – exactly the same as Mechanical or ECE. What makes CSE harder to get is the eligibility: you need at least 80% in both Class 10 and Class 12.
The Seat Booking Amount
After IEMJEE counselling, you hold your seat by paying a booking amount:
- ₹50,000 if you are still in Class 12
- ₹1,40,000 if you have already passed Class 12
This is not an extra charge – it is adjusted against your fees. Do read the refund policy before paying, in case your plans change.
IEM Kolkata Hostel Fees Per Year
- Boys: about ₹1,05,000 a year with food and lodging (about ₹78,000 for lodging only)
- Girls: about ₹1,05,000 a year with food and lodging (about ₹90,000 for lodging only)
- Caution money: about ₹10,000, refundable
The Salt Lake campus has hostel space for roughly 110 boys and 100 girls, so places are limited. If you need a hostel, apply as soon as your seat is confirmed. Students who miss out usually find PG accommodation around Sector V.
